To the Class of 2012: As the days of summer start to dwindle, you're probably thinking about where you'll be a month from now. And it's only natural that the prospect of change would bring both excitement and anxiety. For many of you, coming to Wooster means the move to a new country or a new state with different foods, customs, and weather. Others of you will be immersing yourselves in an entirely new community - our campus - even though you've always lived nearby. Beyond the change in location, you also will be making the transition to college itself. Some of you may already feel very comfortable on a college campus because you've gone to music or athletic camps in such places or even taken classes there. Others of you may be like I was at your age: a first-generation college student who felt clueless about what to expect, but wanted to succeed. Regardless of who you are, you should rest assured that The College of Wooster is ready and waiting for you to arrive. I am privileged to be the Dean for the Class of 2012 and, in that role, I'll be coordinating a program of support for your academic progress, serving as a resource as you make the transition to college life, and continuing in that advisory role until the end of your sophomore year. For now, though, savor the end of summer and know that the changes on the horizon are full of promise. I look forward to meeting you. Denise Bostdorff |
